Ryan Buchholtz

Interim Advisor

A New Englander at heart, but raised in Wyoming, I am an avid and boundless collector of experiences.

A graduate of the University of Wyoming (B.A., 1999), I relocated to Massachusetts immediately upon graduation. Hired by the MassMutual Financial Group in August of that year, I embarked on a 12-year career with the company first as an analyst and, ultimately, as the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer of Commonwealth Financial Group, a Boston-based subsidiary.

In December of 2011, following marriage to my husband, I left the company (and he his) and we began a multi-year adventure focusing on travel and personal enrichment. It was a time of self-discovery and tremendous vacations, family connection and road-mapping the future.

Along the way, and with the assistance of a remarkable personal coach, I decided to learn how to code in Ruby along with HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Upon completion of an intense 3-month coding program it became clear not that I was destined for a path in code, but that the industry had a hold on me, specifically the start-up world.

I am deeply enriched when I can lend my ‘big company’ experiences to individuals and small companies as they aspire to their own successes. And it thrills me to no end to be able to actually roll up my sleeves and affect change without the red tape and bureaucracy so familiar at bigger companies.

In my spare time, there is a good chance you will find me at the nearest airport, maybe plane spotting, but usually embarking on another adventure to a far-flung spot around the world.  And while doing that I’ll probably have a Kindle full of British Royal history to pass the time.

Ryan and his husband Doug, and their feisty dog Dexter recently relocated to Las Vegas, NV but are never far from their next big adventure.
